Taster day for Fashion Course

Shortly after I finished college, I went back to do a taster day for the fashion course which I'm starting in September. We all made  garments out of paper using specific shapes. We worked in pairs. I was paired up with a student named Courtney and we ended up making this intricate creation.

Final Project

For this project, we were asked  to go on a grand day out. So, I decided to go to Wales. I took some photographs of the scenery and bought some souvenirs. I then had to come up with a design using ideas and inspiration from my primary research. I did a lot of secondary research as well. As the project progressed, I made fabric samples of screen-prints, monoprints, machine stitch , applique, fabric dyeing (dip dye, tie die and paint-on dye), batik and felt -making. For my final design, I made a corset top with a panel on the front of a machine stitched, screen-printed tree on a background of red sky and black sea. I painted the background with fabric dyes. I punched eyelets along the edges of the back of the top and laced it up with red ribbon.

top right (stitched screenprint), bottom right (screenprint).

More fabric samples: top left (screenprint), bottom left ( a screenprint on dark fabric which didn't show up very well), right ( batik sample).

I sewed darts onto the top to make it more fitted.
